I recently watched the movie "Moana" at the cinema and, God, that was absolutely amazing! I really enjoyed the whole film, but there's a particular character that made me literally fall in love with it. This guy up there, the 50-foot coconut crab from Lalotai, aka Tamatoa. After the delusion of "Frozen", whose villain was (in my opinion) nothing special, this gargantuan decapod managed to surprise me, making me feel as if I had gone back in my childhood, the time of old Disney's classics. His design is just amazing, colorful and intimidating at the same time, making myself unconsciously push deeper into the chair at every close-up. The moment in which he turned bioluminescent, gosh, I literally felt my heart leap.
As soon as I came back home, I felt the need to sketch him down, imagining how would he looks in a hybrid/Crabtaur form. His claws are so freaking huge! I had to draw him to realize that. And that missing leg... I can just imagine how hard must have been for the animators to make him walk and dance around that way.
In the end, I'm really satisfied with the result. I hope you like it too~
